El Dia De Quatro

Only two days left of week one exploratorium, and we are going to use it to the best of our abilities! Today, for the first part of the day, we focused on drawing. We drew pictures by hand, and then talked about drawing by hand vs. drawing on computers. As always, different people had different opinions. We talked about how this week, we had mostly been writing to communicate, but to remember that drawing is another way to communicate.
At 9:12 we are on the computers, looking at every ones blogs, and watching some videos of the Camelot exploratorium.

9:48. We learn about groups of people that are telling stories with only pictures, so we decide to do that! We each pick 6-8 pictures, and put them in a slide show, and show them to the whole class!
When we are done with that, its 11:16 and we watch a cool video.
At 11:21, Matthew shows us a really cool website. If you enter algebra problems, it solves them for you. If  you enter your birthday, it tells you all about that day. It does lots of cools things like that! Check it out!    http://www.wolframalpha.com/
After that we spent twenty minutes listening to a NPR report on face book, and then go to lunch.
We have an extended lunch so we can watch the Camelot exploratorium preform some things.
When we get back to class, we all make a twitter story. Its a story that we all wrote together in different posts, taking turns writing them from our accounts. each post had to have #story_CFS somewhere in the post, and then if you search that on Twitter, you can get our story, all in a row, and read it!
We and our fourth day drawing online. Some of us get to try out Matthew's tablet, and others will probably get to try it our tomorrow.

Our favorite video of the day today? Watch it all the way threw, because at first it's a little depressing, but it gets really good at the end!

Day Three of Technology!

This picture was taken on earth day. its a word cloud of all of the things searched that day! the bigger the word, the more times it was searched.

It's day three, and we are already more then halfway through the week!
Today was an eventful day, with many things to blog about!
The day started out right on time, 8:45 on the dot! We talked about how stories and writing have evolved, and how we think people will be reading in the future. Nick came up with an analogy. Bikes are to cars, as books are to online reading. Do you think people will read books in the future?
At 9:22, we got back from break and we talked about what information is, and we came up with this.
  • Knowledge
  • Facts
  • Things that are told to you/you find out yourself.
We found out that there is no scientific evidence that we ever forget anything. It baffled us all!
At 10:07 we go back to our discussions on reading. We looked up books online and found some funny ones!

When we got back from our second break of the day we Twittered a little bit, and then Matthew showed us a cool website similar to Wiki Maps Vision Beta, which I posted yesterday, but instead of having things about wiki's, it shows you where people are uploading pictures to Twitter! Very cool!

Check it out!

10:53, and we are about to learn something new! DELICIOUS! It's a site where you can store your bookmarks online! We watched Social Blogging in English, and signed up for our own accounts! We learned about tagging, and all we all tagged a couple websites!
LUNCH TIME!!
At 1:00 we came back and Twittered a little bit more
At 1:15 we start to learn about wikis! We make a Camelot wiki for another exploratorium. We interviewed them, and made a wiki with somewhere around 15 pages!
We went on out last break of the day, and then we came back, and posted a little more on our blogs. That was a lot of stuff to fit into one day!
Our favorite video of the day!

Second Day of Class

Howdy!
Today, we started off the day by talking about OUR ONLINE LIFE vs. OUR REAL LIFE.
We talked about the thin line that separate the two, and then we talked about privacy.
At about 10:50-ish we started to mess around with Twitter again. We learned how to change our back grounds, send replies, follow people, and much more.
At 10:25 we had our mandatory break.
When we came back, we learned about GOOGLE READER! its a very cool thing, where you can subscribe to, and then every time that web page changes, you get an update! We all used out Gmail accounts to follow each others blogs this week! Then we had to read everyones posts!
Then it was time for lunch! See you at 1:00 on the dot!
At 1:00 we all came back from lunch, and Matthew showed us some of his favorite bog posts that we had made! We looked at his website, and heard a little bit about DELICIOUS. we aren't necessarily going to learn about it this week.
Then, we talked about wikis, what they are, and how to use them. We also learned that wikis are more reliable then printed books! YOu should check out this website!

It's very cool!
At 1:24 we watched a Youtube video called RSS in plain english.
At 1:36 we were sent out into the center to link at least five more websites to our google readers be RSS.
2:00, and the day is almost over! It went by so quickly! We take at Matthew's blog, and learned how to comment on peoples blogs. We all commented on his blog, and told him what our favorite thing that we RSSed.
By 2:45, we were back to finding things to RSS and twittering about them!

Our favorite Youtube video of today? Well for a while we got a little off topic... and this is what resulted!

The First Day

The first day. Questions are unasked and unanswered.
We walk into class, and Matthew immediately starts to tell us a funny story, explaining why he's not quite ready for class. It is the first time I had heard a Matthew story in about 2 years!
The rules for the week have been laid down.
  1. Balance
  2. Where & When (would Matthew be okay with that?)
  3. Try It
  4. Safe & Smart
  5. BE ON TIME
By 9:30, we have the computers out, and we are all making Gmail accounts. My computer number is 8!
At 10 we all started to blog! Matthew helped everyone set up a Blogger web blog. We are going to use them this  week for reflections and such.
At 10:25 we have our mandatory no computers allowed break. We have to be back by 10:45 sharp!
We blog until lunch, working on customizing them, then all of the sudden it's time to eat!
1:00, we are in Matthew's room, and we watch 2 videos from TED. Then Matthew asks us to answer three questions on our blogs.
  • What we want to learn about this week.
  • What our summer plans are.
  • Wild card! Write about whatever you want!
Those questions are answers by 2:45 and we go into Matthew's room to watch more videos.
The videos are:
  1. Blogging in plain english. (a very cool video that explains what blogging is, why we have it, and why its so cool.)
  2. Twitter in plain english. (by the same people, it explains what Twitter is, and how to use it!)
We spend the rest of class learning about Twitter, and setting up accounts! Very fun, and very easy!

My favorite thing that we did in class today was watch a video called SHIFT HAPPENS. I recommend you watch it.
